On March 20, 2021, Karen Earle Lile commissioned Seiko Takibana to create art an paper and piano decal with the following direction:
“Complimentary Skills” was commissioned to be evocative of the interconnectivity of the skills of artisans, artists and musicians. It was intended to inspire inclusivity of all who create, preserve, add to, restore and create upon works of the hands that last through generations. It recognizes how each skill compliments the other. It captures the essence of the moments in time, during which the skills of many people create living art and music, bringing meaningful experience to those who listen, look and participate in a piece of music, a work of art, a building or a combination of all three simultaneously.” ~ Karen Earle Lile,
When Chris and Connie Lin purchased the Hamburg Steinway that had been donated to the Oakland Symphony by Thomas Van Der Heide they decided they would like to participate in the Hands Preserving History Project and to commission one of Seiko Tachibana’s art works to be rendered as a piano decal to be unveiled as part of the Breath Free on Wings of Music Project upon culmination of the piano being restored by Kendall Ross Bean (expected completion in 2022). Grays Harbor Historical Seaport became the host of this planned art installation including piano restoration on June 2, 2021 and will be collaborating on the unveiling event.
